How to write this answer
For the essay: Plan for five minutes: An opening anecdote, five dimensions, a counter-view, and a conclusion that returns to the topic.
For this question: Write down five dimensions and a counter-view on the rough page before you start.
Truth 'knows no colour': It does not change with race, religion, caste, party or nationality. The topic asks you to defend truth as universal and impartial, and to examine why people still colour it.
Open with a scene: Two people watching the same event on two news channels and coming away with opposite 'truths'.
Thesis
- Facts belong to no group; when truth is coloured by identity or interest, justice, science and democracy all suffer.
Dimensions to develop
- Philosophical: Satya as a value in Indian thought; Gandhi's view that truth is God.
- Justice: Courts must find facts without regard to who the parties are; 'equality before law'.
- Science: Evidence does not care about the scientist's nationality; peer review and replication.
- Media and politics: Post-truth, fake news and selective outrage colour facts by ideology.
- Social: Prejudice makes people believe or disbelieve the same account depending on who tells it.
- Personal: Honesty in relationships and public service.
The counter-view
- Perspective does shape how truth is understood; history is written by many voices, and listening to them enriches truth rather than colouring it.
Close by arguing that truth itself has no colour, but the courage to see it does: Citizens and institutions must guard it from every side's bias.
